Visit the National Palace of Sintra and the Pena Palace, a Romanticist castle perched atop the Sintra Mountains and listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The palace was built on the former Monastery of Nossa Senhora da Pena and renovated under the initiative of King Ferdinand II of Portugal. In the 19th century, it became the summer residence of the Portuguese royal family.

At the palace entrance, you’ll find a statue of Triton sitting on seashells and corals. The archway represents the terrestrial world above and the aquatic world below, with seaweed and trees intricately sculpted into the structure.

Next, stop at Piriquita, Sintra’s iconic pastry shop, to taste the famous queijada.
