Flavours of Porto!

A morning at the table of the tripeiros, from historic cafés to markets and local flavors

Everyone knows that breakfast is the most important meal of the day — and in Porto, it is also a deeply rooted social ritual. This morning food tour was designed to introduce you to the city through the daily habits, flavors and traditions that shape the life of Porto’s residents, known as tripeiros.

You will start the day like a local, at a traditional café, discovering what a typical Portuguese breakfast looks like. Coffee in Portugal is much more than a drink — it is a daily meeting point and a key part of local culture, explained in detail by our expert guides throughout the experience.

The journey continues with a must-do stop for the classic “coffee with nata”, where you will learn about Portuguese history through one of its most iconic flavors. Next, you will visit a traditional food market in Porto, where you will experience the concept of “lanchar” — a second breakfast or morning snack — while tasting fresh and regional products.

As you walk through the Bolhão neighborhood, you will uncover authentic, off-the-beaten-track spots, mingling with locals during their daily shopping routines. Each stop reveals not only food, but also the stories of the families, cafés, grocery shops and restaurants that preserve Porto’s gastronomic identity.

The tour ends the traditional way, in a favorite local restaurant, where you will enjoy a bifana sandwich paired with Portuguese beer — and finally understand why Porto’s residents are proudly called tripeiros.
